Turmeric

If you’re like me, you might not be all that familiar with turmeric. But I’ve learned a lot. While you may not be familiar with the spice, it is the ingredient that gives both mustard and curry their vibrant color. Beware, don’t get it on your clothing, It stains easily.

Turmeric is a spice that comes from the root of the Curcuma longa plant, it’s a perennial in the ginger family. It’s potent, pungent, bitter and very earthy, it’s said that if you can imagine the smell of curry, that’s what turmeric tastes like. It’s major active ingredient is curcumin, it gives turmeric that yellowish color. Turmeric’s treasure lies in the curcumin’s benefits, including its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that are said to help in inflammation-related diseases, improve memory, reduce pain, neutralize free radicals, manage cholesterol levels, fight depression, and aid in the prevention of cancer.
